Sun Safety Month

The sun is a powerful resource, and when it comes to our health, it tends to get a bad rap. Excessive sun exposure is bad for your skin, causing severe health issues. However, when taken in safely and in moderation, its impact is incredibly beneficial to our overall health and wellbeing, both mentally and physically.

40% of Americans have a Vitamin D deficiency, and yet, where do we gain the most Vitamin D in our bodies? From the sun! It’s time we start to think of ourselves as solar panels, needing to gather at least some of our energy from the precious rays. Just be sure you do it at the right time of day and WITH protection.

Vitamin D is helpful for your immune system, in fighting depression, and in working against any muscle weakness you’re experiencing.  However, the power of sun rays doesn’t end there. Vitamin D from the sun has been linked to:

 • Better sleep

 • Weight loss

 • Better eye health

 • Emotional stability

 • Helping with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis

Just be sure you’re practicing safe sun exposure by:

 • Using sunscreen (always check the date!)

 • Wearing sunglasses

 • Wearing a hat

 • Going out for short time periods

 • Going out in the early morning and late in the afternoon

 • Avoiding the midday sun

 • Keeping hydrated

See you out in the sun in sunny San Diego!
