Stage 1 - Suffering

For the first 3 months in 2023, we will be running our 12 Stages of Healing program. With that, we also have a workbook to help you understand and work through the stages of healing.

Each month, we will do an IN-PERSON class to introduce the stages of healing that go under each season of wellbeing – Discover, Transform, and Awaken. Sign up for our class this month, happening on Thursday, January 26th! More information coming soon. These classes are for current Practice Members of Twin Waves 🙂

Suffering

We are trained to avoid, control, modify, or escape suffering from our earliest years. Whether the suffering is related to physical pain, a threatening disease, humiliation, the loss of a loved one, the fear of failure, or the lack of fulfillment, most of us would agree that suffering is certainly among the least-desired and most unpleasant experiences we go through.

Pain and suffering are likely interlinked, but they are not the same thing. Pain comes from an awareness that something is mentally, emotionally, or physically wrong. Suffering involves dishonoring, denying, or alienating our “true self.”

When we’re at stage one of healing, we see our pain as an inseparable part of our suffering and being. It becomes an all-consuming part of ourselves. While we cannot shut off the pain (as that would reduce the human experience), we can do something about the suffering.

Suffering leaves us feeling paralyzed, helpless, victimized, or obsessed with getting rid of the cause of our suffering. It’s an internal battle within the person who is suffering, and little can be done externally to relieve the suffering.

Instead, as individuals, we need to surrender to the suffering, acknowledge it, allow it to happen without it becoming all-consuming, and ultimately accept it (AAA). This is when a shift takes place. It shrinks in power. Surrendering is rarely comfortable, yet it is necessary to progress to the next stage.

Interested in moving through this stage with us? Come to our workshop on 1/26/23!
