Improve Your HRV
If we’ve tested your HRV recently, you may be wondering how to improve it. If you haven’t had your HRV tested yet, it’s time to do so. Book an appointment with us now. The more you know, the better you can protect your heart health long-term.
Why is HRV important?
Heart Rate Variability is a powerful metric that gives us a unique insight into our body’s response to stress. Having a higher HRV is associated with better health. However, it’s not a case of the higher, the better. Having consistent HRV is also a good sign, and this is what we’re aiming to improve.
So, how can you improve your HRV?
Here are a couple of ways.
Maintaining activity
Regular exercise, about three times a week, can help to improve your HRV at any age. Find ways to track your HRV during sessions if you’re already active.
Sleep well
Sleep deprivation or irregularity can lower your HRV. However, recovery is essential, so make sure you prioritize sleep, especially if you’ve just added exercise to your routine.
Eat better
Avoid processed foods or late-night snacks. Having a better, regular eating routine will help improve your HRV.
Breathe deep
Deep breathing techniques during yoga or meditation can help improve your HRV. It may not work when monitoring your HRV, but it will help you improve it in the long term.
Understand stress
There are physical signs that you’re experiencing stress. Noticing and acknowledging them is one of the most effective ways of dealing with them. When your HRV is lower than usual, prioritize rest and recovery. This will help it to improve over time.
