Irish American History

Irish influence in the US is massive, and there’s a reason why there’s an Irish pub in every town and city. However, the Irish influence runs far deeper than great parties and a friendly atmosphere for a drink.

That’s why, to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate Irish-American Heritage Month. Traditionally, it is celebrated through a proclamation of the President and Congress to honor the achievements and contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants living in the United States.

But, did you know?

The Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister in Gaelic) visits the United States for Saint Patrick’s Day every March.

While here, they have a Shamrock Ceremony at the White House.

So, what’s a Shamrock Ceremony?

It’s where the Irish Prime Minister presents a crystal bowl containing shamrocks to the President in the Oval Office. Shamrocks, a traditional symbol of Ireland, is said to show the union and history between the two countries – and we think that’s pretty neat!

Are you hoping to celebrate that little bit of Irish in you this March? Try out a healthy smoothie.
